When Dignity Is Taken for Granted

When Dignity Is Taken for Granted

Human rights can sometimes sound like complicated legal language.
But at their heart, they are about something very simple: dignity.
It is the dignity of being treated fairly. The dignity of being able to express yourself without fear.

The dignity of having access to basic opportunities and being treated as a human being regardless of your background.
For someone who has never experienced discrimination, these things may seem ordinary.

For someone who has, they can mean everything.
Protecting human rights is therefore not only the responsibility of governments or institutions.

It is also reflected in how we treat the people around us.
The way we speak to someone who has less power than us tells us a lot about the kind of society we are building.
