Democracy Beyond Election Day

For many people, democracy begins and ends at the ballot box.
But voting is only one part of it.

Democracy also means being able to ask questions, challenge decisions, express opinions, organize peacefully and expect those in power to be accountable.

It means understanding that elected leaders work for the people, not the other way around.

A strong democracy needs citizens who are willing to participate even when there is no election happening. It needs people who pay attention to what is happening in their communities and are willing to speak when something is wrong.

Democracy survives when people care enough to participate.
It becomes weaker when citizens believe their voices do not matter.
